The Shakespearean Sonnet
November 3, 2008
Hello all,
Please don’t forget that there is no school tomorrow, as it’s Election Day.
Also, in case you’ve forgotten, conferences begin on Monday, November 10th. If we have not connected on a conference day and time, please send me an email or give me a call.
Homework
More on Wednesday, but just briefly on the homework:
This week I’ve assigned your child a reading assignment and a math assignment to go along with his or her newest Essay of the Month and Science Project of the Month. The Science Project will actually be announced on Wednesday, so there is more to come.
The reading assignment is simply a Cloze assignment like the one that the kids completed last week, and the math assignment consists of four logic puzzles that the kids should attempt. We completed the first two in class today, so they should be familiar with the strategies involved, but still, these problems are tricky! Please don’t panic if your child is floundering. They are difficult to solve at first, and I’m looking for effort more than accuracy (though I wouldn’t mind both!).
I actually assigned your child less homework than usual with the hope that he or she could spend some time watching the Presidential election results on Tuesday night. For once in my life, I told the kids to spend some time in front of the television, so if you could accommodate this request, it would be appreciated. We’ve discussed the election quite a bit and even watched some of the debate, so I think it would be a very worthwhile expenditure of time.
Sorry! Much more to say, but a fire drill, some technology issues, and an invitation to a writing celebration next door kept me busy today. More on Wednesday
Thanks as always for the support!
That’s it for today!
Warmly,
